Advisers for when you are ready for to be more hands-on with your superannuation, or for more in-depth expert advice

The expertise of financial advisers is hugely valuable and can be summarised as:

01.

Organisation

Bringing order to your financial life, by assisting you in getting your financial house in order at both the “macro” level of investments, and also the “micro” level.

02.

Accountability

Helping you follow through on financial commitments, by working with you to prioritise your goals, show you the steps you need to take, and regularly review your progress towards achieving them.

03.

Objectivity

Bringing insight from the outside to help you avoid emotionally driven decisions in important money matters, by being available to consult with you at key moments of decision-making, doing the research necessary to ensure you have all the information, and managing and disclosing any potential conflicts of interest.

04.

Proactivity

Working with you to anticipate your life transitions and to be financially prepared for them, by regularly assessing any potential life transitions that might be coming, and creating the action plan necessary to address and manage them ahead of time.

05.

Education

Exploring what specific knowledge will be needed to succeed in your situation, by first thoroughly understanding your situation, then providing the necessary resources to facilitate your decisions, and explaining the options and risks associated with each choice.

06.

Partnership

Helping you achieve the best life possible in concert with you, not just for you. To make this possible, by taking the time to clearly understand your background, philosophy, needs and objectives, work collaboratively with you and on your behalf (with your permission), and offer transparency around our own costs and compensation.

Understanding the risks of investing

Determining how much risk to take should be related to the period of investment. Generally, if investing for a longer period of time, a portfolio should hold more growth assets (such as shares and property). Returns are expected to be higher and there is a longer time period in which to balance out any negative returns received against positive returns. Lower risk investments are generally more suitable for someone with a shorter time horizon, as these investors require greater stability in returns with less risk of loss of capital.

To help you clarify your own attitude to risk, we recommend you seek financial advice from an authorised financial adviser. In addition, you may work out your risk profile at https://sorted.org.nz/tools/investor-kickstarter
See the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for more information about the risks associated with investing in an investment portfolio on our resources page, here.
All investments carry risk. Events affecting investments cannot always be foreseen, and no-one guarantees any rate of return (or the return of capital).

Before joining the Scheme, you should carefully consider the risks. Your financial adviser can explain the risks in more detail, and tailor advice to suit your needs and objectives.Investments are often divided into five major investment classes – cash, bonds, property, shares and alternative assets – which have differing levels of risk.

There is generally a risk/return trade-off. This means that, when investing in higher risk investments, a higher return is expected on those investments to compensate for the additional risk. Lower risk investments are expected to generate a lower return on average over time.
